RunheistLineage

The Rünheist Lineage

The most prominent family line in the Runick Legends, the Rünheist Lineage is one of the few families to stretch across several generational periods. Although it does have a lengthy period of existence, it still remains relatively compact.

First Generation

The first generation of the Rünheist Lineage is comprised of Vedic and Tahariel. Found as an orphan by a Gratzian blacksmith, Vedic's birth parents are unknown. He was given the surname of Rünheist in homage to the way he was found, all alone in the dark like a single star in the night sky. While he was very close to his adopted brother Vai Quistraih, he did not ever feel like he was truly a member of the Quistraih Lineage.

Tahariel, while not an orphan, never knew her father or either sets of grandparents. She did have a lasting relationship with her mother, who eventually died of illness while Tahariel was in her mid teens. Because of her split Gratzian ( assumed, as her mother told her that her father was a Gratzian merchant ) and Ciivan heritage, as well as her mother's social standing within the Ciivan society, Tahariel was never given a surname. Although she and Vedic did become permanent companions and she is considered the matriarch of the Rünheist Lineage, they never officially married, and she never took on the Rünheist familial name.

Together, Vedic and Tahariel had five children, all sons, which compose the Second Generation.

Second Generation

As all five of their children were born while under their self imposed exile, Vedic and Tahariel never saw any of their children form a lasting relationship before their assassination. At that time, Hawk, the oldest of the five, was only eighteen, and with a two year spread between each of them, Drake was only ten.

After their death, the five brothers attempted to seek out a way to leave the realm behind, hoping to find their parents killers. Before their departure, Drake was slain as well and the remaining four were scattered to various destinations shortly after.

Hawk did eventually form a relationship and a daughter was produced, however details are scarce. Grant also fathered a daughter with little known about the mother. Fox, as the longest living Rünheist, married several times, producing several children. Endether never produced an offspring, as his body and soul were trapped in a perpetual state of decay and renewal causing him to isolate himself. It was believed that Drake's death left him buried before he could ever reach maturity to have a family, though his whereabouts are somewhat hazy when considering Vedic's Gift.

Third Generation

  • Hawk + Unknown Mother
    • Breanna Rünheist

Having been separated from his brothers, Hawk dedicated his life to trying to locate them to no avail. As his life seemed to go on without suffering the effects of age, he had little desire to start a family of his own, but did eventually strike a romantic relationship with a woman in the village which he had eventually settled in. The two spent many years together before she gave birth to Breanna. However when a tribe of ruthless marauding creatures eventually overran their village, Hawk and Breanna stood side by side, attempting to stave off the horde. Both fell in the conflict, but not before Hawk and Breanna could thoroughly decimate their village to prevent their absorption into the ranks of the creatures, saving the souls of the villagers and his family.

  • Grant + Unknown Mother
    • Unknown Daughter

Without the arcane knowledge of his older brother, Grant felt truly lost when he found himself unable to locate his brothers. Relying on the skills he had been taught by his parents, he sank himself into the life of a performing fighter or protector for hire. Eventually his life of quiet introspection lead to a desire for something more, and he courted a local woman of no particular background. Together the two had a daughter before several rival fighters ambushed Grant in the streets at once and killed him. Eventually his daughter grew and married, but had no offspring of her own. Eventually outliving her husband and realizing her nature of a Runick, although never being told of Vedic's Gift, she eventually sought self isolation and remained hidden.

Having been separated from Hawk and Grant, Fox did manage to locate Endether. However with no sign of his other brothers' presence, he eventually settled down into the life in their new home, joining the Dragonfire Royal Army. Through his military career he met a woman named Tedeca with whom he eventually courted and married, and fathered Carvin. Eventually a traitorous servant of Endether kidnapped Carvin and disappeared. During their search, a former ally of Fox' ambushed them and killed Tedeca. Carvin was never found before Fox' own death centuries later.

  • Fox + Selene
    • Sera Rünheist
    • Eva Rünheist

Although he never gave up the search for his first son Carvin, Fox did eventually settle down into family life again with a woman named Selene. Together they had twin daughters, Sera and Eva. While Fox was away in a large city searching for a gift for the twin girls, the same murderer struck again, freezing the cottage where his new family resided, then completely decimating their bodies.

  • Fox + Madeline
    • Wolf Rünheist

Believing that he had escaped his psychopathic former ally centuries after the second attack upon his family, Fox seemed to have gotten past the scars and loss and settled down for a third time. Madeline was a strong, resilient woman also of Runick descent, and so it seemed that he had found a companion that would be able to stay with him for eternity. Together they fathered Wolf, a brilliant young man of incredible strength and spirituality. He was incorrect however, as it seemed that the killer had simply been biding their time, and after Wolf turned fifteen he resurfaced and brutally killed them before Fox' very eyes before escaping once more.

  • Fox + Caitlyn
    • Damian Rünheist

After nearly a century wandering from city to city, and from one realm to the next when it seemed there was nowhere else he could be a stranger, Fox eventually stumbled across Caitlyn, an enigmatic woman with Mythical knowledge rivaling his own. Seemingly timeless, the two found their paths cross nearly a dozen times before a chance meeting of desire fathered Damian, and the two decided to walk the same path. Forthcoming with Caitlyn about his past, he warned her of the dangers associated with being his family, but she either did not let it discourage her, or ignored him outright. In the end it did not seem to matter, as the killer emerged once more while Damian was still an infant. Hoping to finally break Fox mentally, he twisted Caitlyn's mind, causing her to petrify Damian before killing herself.

The third generation of the Rünheist Lineage is arguably the most tragic, as only two members of the generation were able to escape death before starting a family, and one of them never produced an offspring of their own.

The Lone Survivor: Carvin Rünheist

After his abduction, Carvin disappeared for several millennia before reappearing once more as a young man. He had a full knowledge of who he was, and who his parents were, but a complete absence of memory of any events between his first six months of life and his instant reappearance. By this time, the Rünheist Lineage was long forgotten.
