ChirijiradenChirijiradenA blade of mythical proportions, Chirijiraden is known in many realms by several different names including Blade of Ancient Wind and The Jade Bokken as the most common. While its exact forgery is somewhat of a mystery, the blade itself is of an indestructible nature and indescribable sharpness. Seemingly capable of cutting through any matter as though it were slicing through the air itself, it has a very unique property. Chirijiraden is incapable of cutting flesh. This is not to say that skin stops the blade, quite the opposite. When swung, Chirijiraden will pass right through skin as though it were not even there, but no harm will be done. DescriptionChirijiraden's blade is approximately 70cm in length with a slight curve. Though there are some slight style differences, Chirijiraden could accurately be described as a kodachi, a blade shorter in length than a standard katana, but a bit longer than the smaller wakizashi. The blade itself appears to have been constructed in a similar folding style to traditional Japanese blades, though the edge has minimal visible scalloping and a near pearl-white luster on the metal of the blade, along with a mirror-like surface. Unlike traditional Japanese blades, Chirijiraden does not have a collar ( known as a habaki ) on the blade that mounts it to the guard or hilt, but proceeds directly through a ring of solid green jade and into the handle of the blade. The hand guard and hilt are comprised of a single piece of bright green jade, and are carved with the ornamental design of a sleeping winged serpent, the hand guard appearing to be its coiled tail, blending into the blade where the tip would begin. The scabbard of the blade is a wonder in its own right. Also carved from a single piece of green jade, it locks into place over the blade. Unlike most scabbards which have additional bulk and an ovular shape, the scabbard of Chirijiraden fits very closely to the blade, looking much more a second skin to the blade. As with the blade, the hilt and scabbard are indestructible and cannot be chipped. Though the scabbard is wholly solid, the blade of Chirijiraden can slide through the jade of the scabbard without slicing it in two as it would other materials. This allows for a much quicker draw and sheathing than with other blades. It is unknown exactly how the blade knows when to move through the jade or remain locked in place, but it is believed that the spirit of the blade is semi-sentient, and bonded to its owner. OwnershipThe first known owner of Chirijiraden was Adder Spades, a legendary thief. After being bequeathed the blade by Chige, the dragon of Ancient Wind, Adder passed the blade down along with several other personal artifacts to his successors. |
