Resolutions…

avatar graphicWe’re going to skip right past the fact that I didn’t post anything in 2016.

Setting up a website for the first time can be difficult, but it’s even more difficult when you’re setting up the same website for the second ( fourth, don’t let me lie to you like that ) time, and since having rebuilt it the third time ( good for you, you didn’t let me lie to you ) there was all sorts of new things added and the system you were using received some serious updates since you last bothered to do that job you gave yourself. This metaphor is starting to get too heavy for itself, let’s try this again.

I decided to move my website away from a hosting account that I was graciously offered access to by a friend because there’s no reason for me to take advantage like that. It’s been a long time coming and I decided to do it. Shocking as it may be, this is not as easy as you might think it should be. The whole thing was a [expletive] mess. Registration was mishandled and improperly applied. Databases couldn’t be accessed. Databases were accessed after they shouldn’t have been. Installers didn’t work because of previously mentioned database chicanery. Items had to be downloaded, uploaded, deleted, re-uploaded, reinstalled, and then edited one by one to make sure that capitalization wasn’t a problem ( I should have seen that one coming ).

In short it took too long to transfer my website. And then even after I got it transferred it turns out that WordPress doesn’t like it if you now manually create folders named after the pages you set up. Meaning that all the links I had to all the pages I had that also had files attached to them no longer work. I had to go through every post four times ( not lying! ) and make sure that every instance of “media” was changed to “content” when referring to subpages for the navigation, because otherwise it pointed to the ftp index for all the files instead of the actual page.

But it’s all fixed now.

Except for the style settings, themes, and CSS.

You’ve got to be [expletive] kidding me.

  1. You’ll be glad to know your RSS feed is working just fine, which is quite the accomplishment because it’s usually a real bear.
